Outcome of ASEAN SME Showcase and Conference 2015

SME Corp. Malaysia recorded sales negotiation worth RM418.54 million throughout the pioneering ASEAN Showcase and Conference (ASSC) 2015, organised from 26-28 May 2015. The event, which received more than 10,000 registered visitors, was officially closed today by YBhg. Tan Sri Ir. (Dr) Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid, Chairman of SME Corp. Malaysia, after three days of action-pact business and trade proceedings.

Local, regional and international community of entrepreneurs, SMEs, multinational showcased their capabilities, capacity and preparedness to tap the current and future ASEAN potential for business and trade.

Some of the active participants at the Business Matching sessions included BAE Systems, e-Bay, Rio Tinto Singapore, PTT Public Company Ltd, Tesco, Mydin, MRT Corp., Aeon BIG, Alliance Bank Malaysia, Sime Darby and many more. There were 32 anchor companies and 122 SMEs participated in the sessions.

Top three sectors with highest potential sales value are namely Electrical and Electronics with almost RM125 million worth of potential sales; SSL/LED almost RM107 million; and Machinery & Engineering RM54 million.

“The ASSC 2015 received positive response from various high-influence and ministerial positions from the ASEAN, especially from member countries of Philippines, Laos PDR, Thailand among others. I am confident and glad that some member countries regarded the Conference as a model to be emulated in providing a platform that brings the member countries together towards forging closer collaboration within ASEAN and between ASEAN and the trade partners,” said Dato’ Hafsah.
The ASSC 2015 which was concluded today also brought together seven Ministers and Deputy Ministers in-charge of SME development in ASEAN to share their visions and aspirations on the forthcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by end-2015, and more importantly, the way forward post-AEC.

The closing ceremony also witnesses the prizing ceremony for The National Mark of Malaysian Brand – ‘Spot the Mark’ contest. Mr. Toh Seng Kim from Kuala Terengganu, named as the Grand Prize Winner, brought home RM5,000 Cash & Sponsored Hamper.
