Malaysia’s largest SME Exhibition in
Malaysia - the SME Annual Showcase ‘SMIDEX 2013’ marked its 16th year running this
year. With the theme ‘SMEs - Changing the Game’, SMIDEX 2013 was held on 12th

Organised by SME Corp. Malaysia,
SMIDEX 2013 had achieved yet another milestone by recording potential sales
valued at RM322.2 million, as a result of 165 one-to-one business matching

the Government and
Corporate sectors to large and innovative foreign companies from Japan, India,
Korea, Italy, Iran, Turkey, Egypt,
Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and Thailand that occupied a total of 404 exhibition
SMIDEX 2013 had also provided a platform for our
critical mass of Malaysian SMEs to showcase their capabilities in producing and
supplying products and services of high quality for the domestic, regional and
international markets. The Showcase which was premised on a business
lifestyle concept was intended to portray the needs of SMEs in a typical
business life cycle - from the initial stages of business start-up to becoming
global champions.
Numerous public-private partnerships
were formalized through MoUs, initial requests for proposals, sales
negotiations and formal discussions during this flagship event. The key
Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that were signed included MoUs between SME
Corp. Malaysia and Touch n Go, Entrepreneurship Development Fund (Khazakhstan),
and Enterprise Development Fund (Yemen), all of which have created promising
prospects for new business and trade collaborations.
In line with the annual showcase’s
aim of promoting innovation among the SMEs, the SME Innovation Awards 2013 were
presented to 6 most innovative companies at the event with the Top Most
Innovative SME, Romstar Research & Development Sdn. Bhd. winning a
prize worth RM1 million.
SME Corp. Malaysia, had once again,
for the third consecutive year, hosted a conference at the regional level, to
facilitate the exchange of ideas and information between ASEAN SMEs and a
dialogue partner of ASEAN. Back-to-back with SMIDEX 2013, the ASEAN-Korea SME
Conference was held from 12th to 13th June 2013, and had attracted more than
400 delegates. It had successfully inspired, created and leveraged on
opportunities for top global businesses - especially among the diverse ASEAN

of the Republic of Korea, one of the economic powerhouses in Asia. The
conference had also presented a most invaluable opportunity for Malaysian SMEs

could help them expand their business horizons.

Berhad (MIDF), Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), CIMB Bank, Legoland, ABX Express
