In the past, the Economic Partnership Training Program under the Economic Partnership Agreement Malaysia-Japan (JMEPA) benefited more than 15,000 professionals and technicians in the country. Similarly, in terms of trade, Japan remains our largest trading partner in East Asia with a total trade value of RM145.32 billion in 2012. Japan has also been our largest foreign investor during the period 1980 - 2012 with an investment value of RM68.2 billion, which created more than 300,000 job opportunities in Malaysia.

The second wave of LEP will further accelerate the development objective for Malaysia in terms of economics, trade and human capital development. It will continue to attract Japanese enterprises to trade and invest in Malaysia under the Economic Partnership Agreement Malaysia-Japan (JMEPA). A special program has also been developed to support the economic transformation blueprints for both countries, with emphasis on Green Technology, Infrastructure Development, Islamic Finance and Halal Industry.
