SME Corporation Malaysia in collaboration with SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. developed the National Mark of Malaysian Brand, a certification scheme that depicts quality, excellence and distinction of products and services of Malaysian companies. Through this effort, the Government hopes to change the perception that local products are of lower quality, reliability and low packaging standards than big brand names. With the National Mark of Malaysian Brand certification, Malaysian SMEs are able to build credibility and reputation of quality at par. The National Mark of Malaysian Brand was first launched in 2009 by the then Crown Prince of Perak Darul Ridzuan, HRH Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah.
Under this programme, participating Malaysian companies will be evaluated through stringent standards, whereby auditing and monitoring measures will be put in place to ensure adherence to the quality standards set. If successful, the products or services will be given the right to carry the National Mark of Malaysian Brand for a period of two years. In order to retain the Mark, auditing and monitoring measures will be done periodically to ensure adherence to the criteria set. Various trade promotion activities will be undertaken to promote brands that have been awarded with the National Mark of Malaysian Brand.
To acquire the Brand Mark, a processing fee will be imposed to cover the auditing expenses.
