KUALA LUMPUR: How competitive, innovative and resilient are the Malaysian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)? The SME Competitiveness Rating for Enhancement (SCORE) is already in place to assess performance and categorise SMEs on specific criteria. The quantitative assessment tool is being used by ministries and government agencies when making decisions on the applications.
More than 20,000 SMEs have been assessed so far Today the International Trade and Industry Ministry has taken one step forward with a dedicated online assessment called the eSCORE. eSCORE enables SMEs to do self-assessment online in three easy steps and cut SCORE processing time by seven days.
The online assessment can be done through www.score.gov.my. According to SME Corp Malaysia which is an agency under MITI, this tool makes it easier for SMEs to participate in SCORE. The outreach will be greater and more SMEs will gain their tickets to `fly high' into the global market and compete with the others. "This empowering tool gives them the means to understand their current state and take necessary action to enhance their business performance," it said, in a statement. SME Corp has 15 strategic partnerships to help SMEs grow their business substantially.
They include the Construction Industry Development Board, Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd, TM Bhd, Malaysian Timber Industry Board, Northern Corridor Implementation Agency, Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation, Majilis Amanah Rakyat or MARA and GIATMARA.
