Kuskop targets RM12 mln in sales during PMKS week 2023 Northern Zone

BUKIT MERTAJAM, June 3 — The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Kuskop) is targeting a sales potential of RM12 million including through business matching in conjunction with the Micro, Small-and-Medium Enterprises Week (PMKS) Northern Zone from yesterday to tomorrow.

Its deputy minister K. Saraswathy said the programme is an annual event by SME Corp Malaysia (SME Corp) and the northern zone involves Penang, Perak, Kedah and Perlis.

“PMKS Week 2023 Northern Zone held in conjunction with the National Entrepreneurship Week (MUN) organised by Kuskop can promote local PMKS products and services and open up more business opportunities for all parties, especially in the post-pandemic era.

“It starts with the Northern Zone in Penang followed by Sarawak, the Southern Zone in Melaka, the East Coast Zone in Pahang and Sabah. The highlight of MUN and PMKS Week 2023 at the National Level will be held from July 7 to July 9 at Dataran Merdeka which will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“SME Corp is targeting a sales potential of RM70 million including through business matching in conjunction with the PMKS Week 2023,” she told reporters after the opening of Northern Zone PKMS Week 2023 at the SP Arena, earlier today.

The event was officiated by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and was also attended by SME CORP chief executive officer Rizal Nainy, and Penang Trade, Industry and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain.

Commenting further, Saraswathy said the programme also aims to recognise the role and contribution of PMKS to the country’s economic development.

In addition to raising public awareness about PMKS products and services from various industries, PMKS Week also offers a platform for disseminating information on financing and development programmes offered by various ministries and government agencies.

“Last year, PMKS recorded a contribution of RM518.1 billion or 37.4 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provided job opportunities to 7.32 million people, this is in line with ‘Madani Teras Pertama’ which is to drive the country’s economic growth,” she said.

Saraswathy added the Northern Zone PMKS Week this time successfully highlighted the uniqueness and excellence of local PMKS products, especially from Penang, Perak, Kedah and Penang, including traditional foods such as putu perakpeneram, and pekasam.

“A total of 90 booths are taking part in the Northern Zone PMKS Week exhibition and sales carnival with various interesting activities including mobile counters by the Companies Commission of Malaysia, Road Transport Department, free health check-ups, karaoke competitions and lucky draws,” she said.
