A briefing to SMEs on Johor Halal Park was organised by SME Corp. Malaysia on 2 September 2016, in collaboration with UMLand J-Biotech Park Sdn. Bhd. With estimated 60 SMEs attended the briefing, the event was better-than-expected with SMEs coming from all over Malaysia. The event has also managed to attract foreign investors who were really into Halal industry. The event is organised as to brief SMEs on the properties other business opportunities available in Johor Halal Park (JHP). This includes the offering to potential companies to rent premises in JHP within an agreed period of tenancy with the option to purchase and to obtain financial assistance.

The event began with welcoming remarks from the CEO of SME Corp. Malaysia, YBhg. Datuk (Dr.) Hafsah Hashim. Taking the centre stage after that was the CEO of UMLand J-Biotech Park Sdn. Bhd., Encik Mohd Noor. His session highlighted the potential of Johor Halal Park as a strategic development to position Malaysia and Johor specifically as one of the best halal industrial park in the world in terms of world-class integrated facilities and Halal ecosystem. Besides UMLand J-Biotech Park Sdn. Bhd, there were also other presenters namely from Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF), Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) and Serunai Commerce Sdn. Bhd. Each speakers emphasised on the financial assistance and incentives related to Halal industry, as well as the importance of data to link these halal-based companies to markets worldwide.

There were welcoming responses and feedback from SMEs during the session. Noting that this was the first engagement on JHP with SMEs, UMLand J-Biotech Park Sdn. Bhd will keep up the momentum and continue to help SMEs in developing their businesses.

After the briefing, a meeting between UMLand J-Biotech Park Sdn. Bhd. and Lulu Group Retail Sdn. Bhd. was held to discuss and explore possible collaboration and proposal for Lulu Group Retail as the anchor tenant for the proposed Halal Retail Centre in Johor Halal Park (JHP)
